Job Description
Job Title: Assistant Buyer
Location: Claylake, Spalding, Hybrid (1 day per week in office)
Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time
We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Buyer to join our team and support our goal of sourcing the finest ingredients, balancing quality and cost-effectiveness. In this role, you’ll develop a deep understanding of our products, customers, and supply chain while managing procurement for select categories and contributing to our mission of delivering high-quality meals.
Core Responsibilities
- Support Lead Category and Category Buyers in implementing strategic plans and buying initiatives
- Gather and analyze internal and external information to support supplier negotiations
- Manage specific categories, suppliers, and tenders, taking ownership of procurement processes
- Use your analytical skills to model data and assess impacts on cost, quality, and supply chain
- Assist cross-functional teams in the tender process to ensure all legal and Food Technical approvals are met
- Review supplier data on a weekly basis, ensuring corrective actions and supplier improvement plans align with SLAs
- Work closely with suppliers and internal teams to maintain ingredient availability and optimize quality
- Assist recipe developers in sourcing new ingredients and collaborate with finance to resolve invoice queries
- Contribute to reducing customer OTIF (On Time In Full) by analyzing data and supporting cross-functional solutions
- Update supplier forecasts, analyze contract uptake, and communicate any issues to relevant teams
- Confidently communicate and negotiate with suppliers, maintaining effective and professional relationships
Qualifications
Who You Are
- Knowledgeable in food manufacturing and/or fresh produce
- Experienced in procurement, planning, or sales within a commercial environment
- Commercially minded with strong numeracy and data analysis skills (advanced Excel skills, e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs)
- Skilled in communication and relationship-building, with a collaborative approach to stakeholder management
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Quality-obsessed with a keen eye for detail
