Senior Radar Test Engineer
Castelion is seeking a high performing Senior Radar Test engineer to lead lab and captive flight test of radar seekers. In this role you will be responsible for standing up our lab facility (Allen, TX), writing code (Python) to automate lab equipment, operation/automation of our near field data collection system, planning/execution of flight testing, incorporation of non-tactical INS system, and supporting seekers involved in missile test shots. This role will coordinate closely with Castelion’s algorithm development team to collect the data they need to meet the company’s objectives. A successful candidate will have significant experience field testing prototype radars in a fast-paced, rapid iteration environment.
Responsibilities
- Radar Lab Development. Take ownership of standing up a lab to bring up, checkout, test, and verify radar seekers. This includes the necessary test equipment, tools, safety equipment, power, furniture, etc. Expect at least two chambers to be part of this setup, one near-field and one far-field. Responsibilities also include Python code to automate test equipment functions.
- Captive Flight Test Planning. This includes site selection, identifying targets of opportunity, FCC transmission license, aircraft selection, INS selection, determining how to cue the radar, development of test plans, coordination of cooperative test assets, etc.
- Captive Flight Test Execution. Install and operate the radar during test. Become proficient in basic troubleshooting and quick-look tools. Be able to identify when the radar is collecting useful data and when it isn’t. Communicate overall status of the collection to leadership quickly after collection ends.
- Lead Team in Fast-Paced Environment. Castelion prioritizes a high frequency test cadence over large, capstone demonstrations. As the test lead, you will be responsible for creating the ecosystem that enables this cadence
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
- 10+ years of experience in test of RF systems that includes at least 1 radar
- Basic knowledge of radar concepts & terminology
- Basic knowledge of INS systems
- Experience as a test director or similar role
