Avionics Integration Engineer
As an Avionics Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for integrating, testing, and troubleshooting avionics systems in cutting-edge projects. Your role will involve working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of avionics hardware and software, while meeting stringent performance, safety, and reliability standards. A successful Avionics Integration Engineer demonstrates engineering intuition and critical thinking working under ambiguous requirements with minimal oversight. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to advanced technology projects, from initial design through final testing, and plays a critical role in the success of complex systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead the integration of avionics hardware and software components into Castelion systems, ensuring compatibility and performance across all subsystems.
- Develop and execute test plans and procedures for the verification and validation of avionics systems, including ground and flight tests.
- Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues, collaborating with hardware, software, and systems engineering teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct detailed analyses of avionics data to evaluate system performance, diagnose issues, and ensure compliance with design specifications and regulatory standards.
- Interface with suppliers and external partners to coordinate the integration of third-party avionics components.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including integration plans, test reports, and configuration management records.
- Support the certification process by ensuring that all avionics systems meet the necessary regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Develop and refine manufacturing work instructions to enable day-to-day execution of vehicle integration and testing.
- Participate in design reviews, providing expertise on avionics integration and offering recommendations for system improvements.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to continuously improve integration processes and system performance.
- Support launch and test campaigns with travel to Castelion sites up to 10%.

- Strong understanding of avionics systems, including navigation, communication, flight control, and sensor systems.
- Experience with system integration, testing, and troubleshooting, including hands-on work with avionics hardware and software.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements such as DO-160, DO-178, MIL-STD, or similar.
- Proficiency in using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, and data acquisition systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with avionics integration in complex aerospace or defense systems, including UAVs, satellites, or missile systems.
- Knowledge of embedded systems, real-time operating systems (RTOS), and software-hardware integration.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or MATLAB for automation of test and analysis tasks.
- Experience with systems engineering tools and methodologies, including requirements management, configuration management, and model-based systems engineering (MBSE).
- Familiarity with safety-critical system development and certification processes, such as DO-254 for hardware or DO-178C for software.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple integration projects simultaneously.
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a focus on continuous learning and improvement.
Leadership Qualities
Bias to Action and Creative Problem Solving. Desire and experience questioning assumptions in ways that lead to break through ideas that are ultimately implemented. Successfully bring in applicable processes/concepts/materials from other industries to achieve efficiency gains. Ability to personally resolve minor issues in development without requiring significant support.
