The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Senior Customs Compliance Manager, Europe, we are looking for a Senior Customs Compliance Associate to ensure Flexport and our clients remain compliant with evolving global import and export regulations.
In this role, you'll contribute to shaping the vision and strategy for Flexport Customs Compliance in Europe and the UK. Responsibilities include monitoring the quality of the customs declaration data for both in-house teams and our customs partner network. Staying informed on new and updated customs regulations, you'll proactively organize training & publish content for internal and external stakeholders. Collaboration with Customs Operations and Trade Advisory will be key as you provide oversight and regulatory expertise. As a technology-driven company, we're looking for someone who can implement innovative customs compliance solutions, leveraging modern technology to enhance our overall compliance and gain deeper insights into all compliance activities.
You Will:
- Complete audits/reviews on import customs declarations lodged across NL, UK and DE, exports and EU partner countries
- Prepare training for Customs brokers based on audit findings and recent legislative developments in the industry.
- Keep track of recent laws, regulations and news in the industry and proactively inform both internal and external stakeholders about customs-related changes that might have an impact on the business.
- Cooperation with the Trade Compliance team on topics such as sanctions, denied parties, embargoes etc.
- Cooperation with Legal and Trade Compliance teams to streamline security assessment for direct and indirect representation modules.
- Streamline the record-keeping for communication with Customs (i.e., fines, refunds, request for additional payments, keeping track of security payments for inspections on customs valuation etc.)
- Support with onboarding new clients (direct or indirect rep.) by conducting background checks and sending over security assessment.
- Support on customs license applications & maintenance (RTO/bonded warehouse/AEO etc.)
- Keep track of unclosed T1 and follow up on inquiries from the NL Customs authorities
You Should Have:
- BSc degree with a strong academic track record and meaningful internship experience. Bonus points for majors relating to Supply Chain, International Trade, International Business, Customs or Maritime Law.
- Over 3 years experience in customs, preferably at a customs agency, freight forwarder or trade compliance firm.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Next-level attention to detail and follow-through.
- High level of computer literacy. No paper. All digital.
- Most importantly, a can-do attitude. See something broken? Fix it.
- Proficiency in Dutch is desirable
