The opportunity:
The Commerce Tech team is responsible for defining the products in the marketplace, setting up the pricing strategy, managing the quoting and requoting workflow, and also handling the financial related staff, like invoicing, billing and payment. We are broadly leveraging optimization models, machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) to build the best solutions for our customers. We are looking for engineers who love learning, are passionate about collaborating, and desire to build solutions with a global impact.
The role involves learning the business of freight forwarding, modeling the work that people do to move freight, designing solutions to make it more efficient, and thinking innovatively to automate much of it. In this role, you will have an opportunity to own the design and development of key parts of our forwarding systems. You will have influence on subsystem design and help contribute to a team culture around practices that are critical to a quality product.
***This position requires attendance in the Bellevue office 3 days per week and 2 days of remote flexibility***
You will:
- Work closely with business partners and product managers to distill complex business problems into elegant technical solutions.
- Help the team build a technical vision and roadmap in collaboration with Product Managers (PM), Engineering Managers (EM), and leadership.
- Build highly available, secure, distributed systems in a microservice architecture.
- Tackle difficult and subtle system-level issues, emphasizing simplicity and long-lasting designs. As we extract services out of the monolith, we take pride in untangling legacy code and re-building with composability in mind.
- Onboard and mentor engineers. We believe in structured onboarding and mentoring processes to ensure a smooth transition into the team and then continued development on the team.
- Champion a culture of quality and reliability, using metrics and post-mortems to drive continuous improvement.
You should have:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience
- Experience architecting and building complex, enterprise grade systems in a complex, multi-tiered, distributed environment
- A desire to develop your tooling repertoire. We are tech-agnostic regarding candidate background, but our platform is built with AWS, Kotlin, Java, Ruby, etc.
- Experience as a technical lead for a group of engineers and a demonstrated ability to lead teams through complex, technical decision processes.
- The ability to convey technical ideas in common terms to business partners, product managers, designers and engineers alike.
- Geek out about shipping and logistics. (We do this often.)
- Experience architecting and building complex, enterprise grade systems in a complex, multi-tiered, distributed environment

The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range displayed, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and / or training.
