We are seeking a Technical FinOps Engineer to optimise cloud usage and costs across our infrastructures. This role bridges engineering, finance, and operations, ensuring that our cloud environments are both cost-effective and aligned with business needs.
You will work hands-on with cloud infrastructures while driving financial accountability across teams.
Your mission will be to
- Analyse cloud usage data to identify cost-saving opportunities and implement optimisation strategies.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design and implement cost-effective infrastructure.
- Develop and manage automated solutions for rightsizing resources and managing unused or underutilised assets.
- Establish dashboards and metrics for monitoring cloud spend and usage trends.
- Generate detailed cost analysis and forecasts to support financial planning and decision-making.
- Ensure transparency of cloud costs to stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams.
- Define and implement FinOps best practices, fostering a culture of cost awareness.
- Partner with procurement and finance teams to improve cloud vendor negotiations and pricing strategies.
- Maintain cloud cost allocation models, ensuring accurate chargebacks and showbacks to internal teams.
- Work closely with DevOps, SRE, and engineering teams to align cloud cost initiatives with technical needs.
- Define and enforce policies for cloud governance, including tagging, budgeting, and spending limits.
- Provide training and guidance to engineering teams on cloud cost management best practices.
Requirements
Background and experience
- 3+ years of experience
- Fluency in English (French is a plus).
- Technical expertise in cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure, including billing and cost management tools.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform).
- Proficiency in monitoring and analytics tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry) for cloud spend and performance metrics.
- Hands-on experience with scripting and automation tools.
- Strong understanding of cloud pricing models (e.g., reserved instances, spot instances, savings plans, …).
- Familiarity with FinOps principles and frameworks, with a focus on cost optimisation.
- Previous experience working in cross-functional teams, including engineering, finance, and operations.
