Job Description
Engineering Managers are instrumental to the success of our Engineering squads. Between responsibilities as a people leader and a technical problem-solver, you’ll need to have a deep understanding of what motivates and inspires great software engineers, be able to help with complicated technical challenges and work collaboratively with Product Managers to maximise the value we bring to our customers.
This role is to manage our Software Engineering Foundations squad. This squad is responsible for managing our developer tooling and core platform across AWS, Frontend, Backend, and mobile. You will collaborate closely with our Technical Product Manager and Senior Engineering Manager to support internal customers and drive major initiatives across Gousto Tech. Additionally, you will facilitate collaboration and implement a platform-as-a-service model from team topologies to ensure we deliver impactful changes and value where it is needed most.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead and manage platform engineers across various technology platforms, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture
- Demonstrate expertise in SDLC and stay updated with industry trends to drive best practices in Platform Engineering
- Engage with internal technical customers to understand their needs and ensure effective communication and collaboration
- Define and manage product requirements and roadmaps, aligning goals with business objectives and delivering high-quality outcomes
- Enhance developer experience by implementing tools and processes that streamline workflows and improve productivity
- Promote continuous improvement within the team, encouraging process enhancements and data-driven decision-making
Who You Are
- You have proven experience leading high performing, autonomous engineering teams in complex environments
- You have a delivery mindset - we have a lot to do in a short space of time
- An advocate of XP or similar software engineering practices
- Great understanding of the principles of Agile and Lean development
- You have experience in architecting distributed systems on a public cloud platform
- Excellent communication and presentations skills, whether to the engineering team, business stakeholders or to our leadership team
- You have experience working in a fast paced, high growth, technology focused organisation
- Proven experience helping to create a forward-thinking technology culture
- A desire to work within a Platform team and with internal customers
