What would you do
As a Software Safety Engineer (f/d/m) you will join our systems team in ensuring the development and maintenance of safe software within the machine safety context. You will play a key role in refining and optimizing our modern software development process, which includes the use of C++, Bazel, and GitHub, along with modern safety SoCs and QNX as our real-time operating system (RTOS). Your work will ensure compliance with safety standards, particularly IEC 61508-3 for software and ISO 13849 for system and hardware safety.
Leave your footprint by:
- Collaboration with the systems and software development teams to refine and implement a modern, automated software development process based on C++, Bazel, and GitHub, ensuring alignment with IEC 61508-3.
- Ensuring all work products meet the necessary safety integrity levels (SIL) and other relevant safety criteria.
- Working closely with software developers to ensure our software conforms to safety standards. Provide guidance on integrating safety practices within this environment and using modern tools like Bazel and GitHub.
- Ensuring the correct integration of safety elements, such as hardware components and software modules, following their safety manuals. Validate that these elements are integrated appropriately and according to all stated safety requirements.
- Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation supporting the software safety lifecycle, including safety plans, software safety analysis, safety requirement specifications, test plans, and validation reports. Ensure proper documentation for the use of safety elements within the development process.
- Acting as a liaison with notified bodies, supporting conformity assessments and audits. Ensure that all necessary documentation and processes are in place to demonstrate compliance with relevant safety standards.
- Providing training and guidance to team members on our safety-related development process, standards, and the effective use of our development environment.
What you will bring to the team?
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in functional safety within the software domain, particularly with IEC 61508-3 and ISO 13849.
- Proficiency in C++ and familiarity with modern development tools such as Bazel and GitHub.
- Experience working with modern safety SoCs and QNX RTOS.
- Strong understanding of safety-critical software development processes and tools.
- Experience with safety analysis methods such as FMEA, FTA, and HAZOP.
- Experience with the integration of safety elements and working with safety manuals.
- Strong knowledge of safety lifecycle management and safety integrity levels (SIL).
- Experience collaborating with notified bodies and managing conformity assessments is highly desirable.
Nice-to-have:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Experience in embedded software development or real-time systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with relevant safety tools used in modern, safety-critical environments (e.g., static code analysis, model-based design).
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
