Description
Who we are
Marvel Fusion, founded in 2019 and based in Munich, is a technology pioneer in the field of safe, clean, and reliable power generation. With the aim of solving one of the biggest problems of humanity, we are developing a completely new type of fusion energy technology that dramatically increases the probability of fusion and builds on recent advances in laser and nanoscience.
Our mission is to unlock the potential of fusion power generation: abundant, clean, economic and safe energy. On the critical path is the demonstration of the key features of Marvel Fusion’s unique fusion approach leveraging ultra-high intensity, short-pulse lasers and nanostructured targets. In recent years, the Experimental Physics Group at Marvel Fusion has implemented a new research laboratory at a world-class, ultra-high-intensity, short-pulse laser facility in the Greater Munich area. Moreover, we have partnered with international laser facilities, including the world’s most powerful laser facility ELI-NP in Măgurele (RO) and will soon break ground to build a revolutionary high-power laser facility in Colorado (US). Together, these facilities are providing an excellent research platform to conduct groundbreaking laser-fusion research.
Why Marvel Fusion
By joining us, you will be:
- Solving one of the most complex technological challenges known to humanity, harnessing Fusion on Earth
- Part of a highly purpose-driven team working on providing the world with clean, safe and abundant energy
- Working alongside world-leading scientists and entrepreneurs in the field of Fusion
- Part of a start-up where growth on a company and individual level is the default
The impact you will make
As a Data Physicist, you will become part of our team of seasoned scientists, contributing to the planning and execution of pioneering experimental campaigns in laser-driven fusion.
You will play a key role in streamlining data acquisition processes during experiments and setting up the necessary data infrastructure. After the experiments, you will be responsible for structuring the collected data and developing software tools for its analysis and interpretation. In this role, you will act as a crucial link between engineering, IT, experimental execution and the generation of scientific insights and drive improvements in data acquisition, diagnostics, and experimental setups. All while supporting our overarching mission: to make fusion energy happen.
More specifically, you will:
- Plan, develop, and deploy data organization, storage, and processing systems for experimental campaigns in the field of nuclear fusion driven by ultra-short, high-intensity laser pulses interacting with advanced targets at facilities worldwide, which will include:
- Optimize and enhance Marvel Fusion’s data analysis software stack
- Set up improved data infrastructure, storage, and data reduction standards ranging from human-readable to proprietary binary data
- Implement software and hardware solutions to organize and process raw data to derive the basic physical quantities of interest
- Support the implementation of data acquisition systems (DAQs) for real-time or batch processing of experimental data
- Work closely with the diagnostics, control, and IT infrastructure engineers to streamline the end-to-end process
- Be a key element in defining and pursuing the company's forefront scientific mission, following a strict code of ethics, and protecting confidential information
- Be part of a team and work collaboratively with scientists and engineers in a highly dynamic working environment
- Participate in experiments to gain valuable insights to improve our analysis systems along with the rest of the experimental team
Activities will initially be performed in the Greater Munich (DE) area, with occasional travel to research facilities worldwide.
What you bring
- Completed a minimum MSc in Physics, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent breadth and depth of experience
- Hands-on experience and expertise in scientific computing and processing of large datasets (over 100 GB) is required
- Strong proficiency in Python is required, with additional experience in C/C++, CUDA, OpenCL, Mathematica, Fortran, or Matlab considered an advantage
