Luminary ROLI is looking for an experienced data engineer to help leverage data and deliver actionable insights globally across the business.
The primary objectives of the successful data engineer include shaping and scaling the company’s data and analytics infrastructure. This will focus on our consumer music learning ecosystem and include our creator side of the company. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in working with consumer apps to build robust pipelines that help drive business insights from a mix of domain data. You will report to our Senior Director of Data & Insights in this role. You will sit within the central Data & Insights function which includes data engineering, analytics and research and enables four key stakeholder groups: product, marketing, commercial and operations. In your role, you will collaborate with your mission and stakeholders to develop our data infrastructure to deliver better value now and scale for the future.

What you’ll do:
As a Data Engineer embedded into the Data & Insights mission, you will play a key role in shaping the consumer experience by collaborating closely across different stakeholder groups. Specifically, you will be responsible for:
- Pipeline development: Directly responsible for designing, constructing, and maintaining efficient data pipelines of Luminary ROLI’s product data
- Project management: Understanding and translating business requirements into tangible technical deliverables by effectively communicating with key stakeholders
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Platform and Software teams to design and implement robust product data infrastructure
- Stakeholder management: Proactively spending time with stakeholders to understand their needs and translate them into technical requirements
- Culture: Contribute positively to the overall culture of the Luminary ROLI team
What you’ll need:
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience as a data engineer, actively engaged in designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines
- Strong affinity for logical and technical thinking, with a background ideally encompassing a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field
- Experience with data warehousing solutions (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake)
- A keen eye for attention to detail to investigate, clean, and ensure data quality
- Deep knowledge of database query languages (SQL / NoSQL)
- Competent with a dynamic language (Python)
- Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and a cloud practitioner certification or equivalent from any vendor.
- Experience with data orchestration tools to automate and schedule data workflows
- Experience using third-party APIs (REST & GraphQL) to integrate data from various sources such as Stripe, Shopify, digital marketing platforms, and Mixpanel.
Great to have:
- Knowledge of pedagogy, piano music theory or a background in music education
- Analytics Engineering experience, modelling data using DBT or other modelling tools
- Experience working with e-commerce and digital marketing data and auto-didactic apps, platforms or similar products
