This Logistics Specialist role is multifaceted and requires a blend of technical expertise, communication skills, and strategic thinking. Here’s a breakdown of the role and the skills you’d need to excel:
Key Responsibilities
Logistics Management:
- Oversee inbound and outbound shipments both domestically and internationally.
- Manage shipment schedules, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.
- Communicate with stakeholders across the supply chain to resolve issues and ensure smooth operations.
Contract and Freight Management:
- Handle purchase and sales contract management, ensuring compliance with terms.
- Evaluate and negotiate freight rates and services to optimize transportation solutions.
- Lead the freight execution process, coordinating with internal teams, suppliers, and service providers.
Problem-Solving and Issue Resolution:
- Address and resolve unexpected transportation issues promptly.
- Anticipate potential disruptions and respond proactively to maintain logistics continuity.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service quality.
- Track performance metrics and key performance indicators to drive efficiency improvements.
Documentation and Auditing:
- Ensure proper documentation is retrieved for all shipments.
- Audit demurrage and detention claims, coordinating with relevant teams to resolve issues.
Stakeholder Communication:
- Maintain daily contact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Foster long-term relationships with customers, vendors, and service providers.
About You
Educational Background:
- A four-year degree in supply chain, logistics, or a related field is preferred.
- Equivalent industry experience may also be considered.
Skills and Attributes:
- Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
- Ability to research, take initiative, and lead within defined parameters.
- Effective team-oriented leadership and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Knowledge of domestic transportation and freight spreads.
