Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
As a talented Propulsion Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, justification, testing and validation of the mechanical structure of the propulsion system and its interfaces with the primary structure.
Key Responsibilities / Tasks
In your capacity as a Propulsion Structural Engineer, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:
Reviewing static & dynamic load inputs, material properties, test data, and component requirements to properly set up structural analysis cases.
Providing stress analysis results, with detailed validation methodologies and appropriate justifications of the overall propulsion system using the appropriate applicable standards required to get NASA certification.
Collaborating closely with design engineers to validate mechanical sizing and help engineers iterate through designs as efficiently as possible.
Designing simple mechanical components from scratch and proposing creative solutions to design engineers based on your experience and structural analysis results.
Developing and supporting related hardware test campaigns (coupon or sub-assembly testing) to gather analysis inputs or validation data.
Being a key contributor to anomaly investigations by performing root cause analyses on structural damage and/or justifications of non-conformities
What we would love to see from you
Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering and 3+ years of related experience
Strong understanding of structural design and analysis principles, especially for metallic assemblies
Strong understanding of development and qualification space standards for pressurized components (e.g., AIAA S-080-1998)
Ability to conduct structural analysis using classical hand-calculations and finite element techniques
Fundamental knowledge of structure strength, stability, and fatigue failure mechanisms
Expertise using Nastran or ANSYS
Expertise using Hypermesh
Familiarity with CAD software (preferably NX/TeamCenter)
