About Castelion
Castelion is bringing a new approach to defense development and production: one that focuses on short, iterative design cycles, rapid testing in development, and modern commercial manufacturing strategies for production at scale. We’re designing, building, and testing next generation long range strike weapons systems to give America and its Allies a definitive edge and deter future conflicts.
Senior Mechanical Engineer
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer you will be at the forefront of defining, designing, building, and testing our radar seekers and other missile subsystems. This role requires a mechanical engineer with the breadth to engage across thermal, structural, assembly, design-for-test, etc. Your role involves close collaboration with fellow Castelion engineers across missile-level and seeker-level hardware domains. We seek intelligent, collaborative, and driven engineers who are passionate about problem-solving and eager to contribute to an extraordinary mission. If you thrive in challenging environments and are excited by the prospect of making a tangible impact, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- System Synthesis: Working with broader seeker and missile teams, develop a physical concept for realizing subsystems.
- Electronics Packaging: Represent mechanical design aspects in the creation of the assembly flow, concept for thermal management, and integration into the next higher assembly.
- Thermal Analysis: Working closely with EE design team, develop solutions for keeping electrical components within thermal boundaries throughout mission. Simulate performance during design, and measure performance of heat sinks once fabricated.
- Structural Analysis: Basic structural analysis of components in missile flight environments.
- Test Fixtures: Create concepts and designs for a variety of lab and captive flight test fixtures.
Basic Qualifications
- Educational Background: Master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- Technical Proficiency: 10+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience. Must have experience working the EEs in the domains of RF and PCB/CCA to realize producible, scalable solutions.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- System Experience: Practical experience designing systems that were fielded in series production. Practical experience with dense electronics packaging. Experience working on missiles/seekers is preferred.
- Technical Skills: This role requires broad mechanical domain knowledge, including detailed CAD design of complex parts, tolerance stack up analysis, thermal analysis, structural analysis, and deign-to-cost.
- Problem-Solving: Innovative problem-solving approach using first-principles thinking, including developing prototypes to validate key design concepts and quantify technical constraints.
All employees are granted long-term stock incentives as part of their employment as Castelion. All employees receive access to comprehensive medial, vision, and dental insurance, and the company offers three weeks of paid time off per year.
